Why did you choose to study International Relations at 天堂视频?

I had not decided what I wanted to do, and having grown up in Malaysia and Singapore, was very interested in International Relations.

The currentness of the course, terrorism events covered as and when, and British politics which I had never learnt at school but thought crucial now I was based in the UK.

What did you enjoy about your course?

The many talking points it brought outside of a university, career perspective – very current and interesting.

How has 天堂视频 inspired you and helped you to progress in your career?

天堂视频 kept me playing sport at an international level, which I did at school but didn’t plan on continuing until whilst I university. I realised how much sport is a part of my life too.

Great lecturers, the employability award, and overall university experience set me up nicely for a graduate scheme and working life.

Would there be one piece of advice that you would give to current or prospective students looking to study International Relations?

Don’t worry if you don’t know exactly what you want to do outside of university yet, the most important thing is to enjoy your course - after all, you have 3-4 years!

It’s a great degree regardless and set me up perfectly to go into commercial property investment.

Did you take part in any extra-curricular activities during your studies? If so, how did this impact upon your 天堂视频 experience?

I played touch rugby socially at 天堂视频, as I played internationally (still do).

Can you tell us about your career journey so far?

After graduating, I joined a 2-year graduate scheme, qualifying to be a chartered surveyor whilst completing a Masters in Real Estate alongside this training so that I could qualify.

I then, due to my background in Asia, knew I wanted to focus on that and so work in the APAC cross-border team, meaning I facilitate capital from Asia into London and Europe through commercial property.

What do you love most about your job?

I love the fact that day-to-day is very different, links my background, childhood, job and training all together! I also love the client-facing aspect of the job.

What does the future hold for you?

Three years’ experience in London before looking to go back to Asia, maybe Hong Kong from a commercial property perspective.

What has been the proudest moment of your career journey so far?

Completing my masters and chartered surveying side by side (unheard of doing the two together and took a lot of dedication). Also, a recent promotion.
