IRPH students attend symposium on the history and politics of US-UK relations

A delegation of ten final year IRPH students, along with Dr Sam Edwards, attended an academic symposium at Harlaxton College, the UK campus of the University of Evansville. The event formed part of a series to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sir Winston Churchill and celebrate the genesis of the 鈥榮pecial relationship鈥� between Britain and the United States.

Speakers included the Deputy-Chief of Mission at the US Embassy as well as senior academics, diplomats, and military officers from the UK and the United States. The students, who are all studying the ‘Special Relationship? Anglo-American Relations since 1900’ module, were able to ask the distinguished speakers questions, several of whom approached Sam afterwards to say how impressed they were by the students.

As part of the event, students also visited the Churchill exhibition, which featured one of the country’s biggest private collections of Churchilliana, on loan to Harlaxton, and toured the house and grounds.
