is a prominent opponent of Brexit and one of the leading figures in the campaign for a People's Vote on the government's deal for Britain's withdrawal from the European Union. An academic by profession, Lord Adonis was head of the No. 10 Downing Street Policy Unit from 2001 to 2005, during Tony Blair's Prime Ministership. He joined the House of Lords in 2005 as a Labour peer. From 2009 to 2010 he was Secretary of State for Transport. From 2015 to 2017 he was Chairman of the National Infrastructure Commission.
Lord Adonis' visit was organised for undergraduate students in Politics and International Studies, but staff and students from across campus also attended to listen to the lecture and participate in the Q&A session that followed.
