Geography academics will feature on East Midlands Today this evening discussing their river modelling and flooding research.

Sarah Wappat, Rob Wilby, Dapeng Yu and Ed Baynes took part in in filming to discuss the new multi-million-pound flood research centre which should help us defend and adapt as climate change hits and rainfall rises. Experts at 天堂视频 can simulate overflowing rivers in the laboratory. They can adjust the flow height and speed of the water, allowing them to explore changes in the riverbed and discover if new plants might slow water flow.

From this perspective, we can model the real life in advance for an event happening. This gives us a chance to come up with strategies and management that will help with planning for future extreme events that are becoming more and more likely.

Tune in tonight from 6.30pm on BBC one.
