Success for Geography student as they are named LU Arts’ 2019-20 scholar

An event held earlier this week celebrated this year’s recipients of the LU Arts’ scholarships.

Congratulations to our Geography student Isobel Lawson who has been awarded one of the ten available prestigious scholarships.

As a result of being named scholars for this academic year, the students have received a £200 cash prize and a tailored package of tuition and mentoring to develop their skills and knowledge further.

The scheme will also provide them with the opportunity to showcase their talent through University events.

They met with the University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Robert Allison and the LU Arts team on Wednesday (20 November), who spoke with them about their talents and his hopes and ambitions for them throughout the year.

Isobel has been singing all her life and started singing lessons at the age of 7 after falling in love with performance after her first school play.

Along with achieving her Trinity Grade 8 in classical singing, Isobel has sung in numerous choral groups including the Musical Original Singers whom she toured around America, Italy, Latvia and UK with, competing in international a cappella competitions. Whilst studying Geography at ÌìÌÃÊÓƵ, she has been heavily involved in Stage and the Shakespeare society where her love of performance has grown even more.

Isobel is looking forward to helping grow the musical community here at ÌìÌÃÊÓƵ as one of the recipients of the Choral Scholarship.

Music is such an important way to bring people together.
