Why did you choose to study at 天堂视频?
天堂视频 is close to my home in Nottingham, and has an amazing reputation!
After attending an open day, and getting the opportunity to speak to the staff and lecturers, I quickly discovered that this was the place for me.
What's your favourite thing about 天堂视频?
I love the environment. 天堂视频 has a real homely feel about it, and the people you meet are so friendly and welcoming.
I settled straight in and got stuck in with everything that the University had to offer.
Why did you decide to study your course?
I didn't want to have to choose between English Language and English Literature, as I wanted the freedom to study what I wanted. The English course here has a wide variety of different modules, topics and activities that you can take part in. The freedom to choose what I want to do for my dissertation was very liberating, and gave me a lot of independence.
What do you enjoy the most about your course?
I enjoy the freedom, module content and the lecturers.
Getting to meet, and work with, new people on my course is also really fun!
My lecturers make the seminars and lectures worthwhile - their expertise and bubbly personalities are an incredible asset to the department.
What do you think of the teaching quality and facilities?
The teaching quality is amazing. The lecturers always have time for you, and are so approachable and easy to talk to! They're always willing to go the extra mile to help you and are so supportive.
The facilities available are always high quality, including the spinning desks that we get to use in our department!
Did you have a particular favourite module/project on your course? If so, what?
My favourite modules have been 'Linguistics' and 'Film Studies', due to the variety of things that I was able study and write about.
Studying 'Modernist Poetry and Literature' was daunting at first, but as soon as you're immersed in the material, you find so much to write on!
What kind of support have you had in the School, and from the University?
I've had one-to-one appointments with lecturers to discuss my progress, and any possible improvements I could make.
I have also had support from the Careers Network with enhancing my CV and any job applications.
The Mathematics Learning Support Centre has also helped to improve my numeracy skills ahead of preliminary assessment centre tests for jobs.
What do you hope to do when you graduate, and how will your degree support this?
I have recently passed an interview to start a School Direct placement programme, and my degree will assist with this because I will be highly qualified in the subject I want to teach.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone thinking about coming to 天堂视频, what would it be?
Think about what you really want; what your gut tells you is usually right.
Consider the factors that are most important to you, and what there is to offer alongside your degree - three years is a long time to just spend focused on studying.
Has 天堂视频 inspired you? If so, how?
天堂视频 has inspired me to get more involved in societies, sports and socialising! I've had the best three years here, and 天堂视频 has helped shape me into the that person I am today.
I'm a much more confident, outgoing person thanks to the opportunities offered by the English department and 天堂视频 as a whole! I'll be very sad to leave this place behind.
