New Dean of School of Social Sciences and Humanities appointed

Professor Justin Waring has been appointed as the new Dean of 天堂视频鈥檚 School of Social Sciences and Humanities

Professor Waring is a world-leading medical sociologist with expertise in the implementation of strategic change in health and care systems.  

He is currently based at the University of Birmingham as Professor of Medical Sociology, and due to join 天堂视频 in November 2024. 

Professor Waring is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Science and the Royal Society of Arts, and Director of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Birmingham, RAND and Cambridge Rapid Evaluation Centre (BRACE). BRACE provides decision makers and stakeholders with time-critical evidence and learning about new ways of organising and providing care. 

He has previously held positions at the University of Cambridge, University of Nottingham and University of Gothenburg, and has longstanding collaborations with researchers at the University of Toronto and University of California, Berkeley.

Speaking about his appointment, Professor Waring said: “I am thrilled to be joining the School of Social Sciences and Humanities at this exciting time in the University’s continued progress in creating better futures, together. 

“The school will play a pivotal and collaborative role in responding to the climate emergency, in fostering more inclusive and vibrant communities, and in contributing to the health and wellbeing of our regional, national and international communities.”
