‘Behind the Mask’ is a student-run literary festival of identity and diversity at a time when everyone has experienced the effects of living behind a mask. This series of events aims to unveil stories and experiences, bringing awareness to the literal and figurative masks that occupy the space between creative writers and their writing.

This is the first year we are running this 天堂视频-based literary festival! It includes five FREE literary-themed events live and on Zoom between 30th May and 4th June! Details below:

BEHIND THE MIC: A Night of Voices

An Open Mic night on Monday 30th May at The Organ Grinder from 18:00 onwards. A chance for you to share your poems—especially if they have a 'behind the mask' theme. All welcome to join us for a friendly atmosphere upstairs in The Hayloft. Book your performance slot by emailing behindthemasklboro@gmail.com or sign up on the night. FEATURING Jamie Thrasivoulou & Nafeesa Hamid!

BEHIND THE WORDS: Exploring Poetry

A friendly discussion of a collection of chosen poems with a focus on reading 'behind the mask' of the words and encouraging your personal interpretations at the White Hart on Tuesday 31st May from 19:00-21:00.

BEHIND THE MYSTERY: Unveiling Crime Writing

Online live readings and Q&A sessions on Zoom from three crime writers at different stages in their careers, who will read from their work and answer your questions about this popular genre from 17:00-19:00 on Wednesday 1st June. FEATURING Johanna Mo, Megan Constable & Kate Rhodes!

BEHIND THE MASK: Beyond 天堂视频

From 18:00-20:30 on Friday 3rd June, four alumnae of 天堂视频 Creative Writing 'unmask' their experiences of moving from being a student or PhD researcher to becoming a published author, and their experiences in the writing industries. Followed by readings from some of our MA students. FEATURING Shruti Chauhan, Lottie Hazell, Sarah Ann Juckes & Megan Constable!

BEHIND THE MASK: Unveiling Stories & Experiences
