Overview
Sport is a global and expanding industry offering a range of exciting career opportunities for graduates with a strong understanding of business, finance and management in a sporting context.
Our BSc Sports Management degree is co-taught by the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences (currently ranked 1st in the world for sports-related subjects) and the School of Business and Economics (one of the UK's leading business schools) to equip you with vital skills in marketing, organisational management, and accounting.
The degree will provide you with a thorough grounding in the key strategic challenges and opportunities for sport by developing your understanding of sports organisations, governance, policy, marketing and economics.
Optional modules allow you to explore the wider context of sport management as it relates to coaching, leadership, society, physical activity and wellbeing, enabling you to pursue your interests and develop the skills and knowledge sought by graduate employers.
With a strong focus on employability throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to work with 天堂视频 Sport and our partners on real-world business issues, take advantage our our strong partnerships across sport to secure an optional year-long placement, and put theory into practice alongside elite athletes on campus via our Coach and Volunteer Academy (CVA).
You will also explore the social and policy environment in which sport management takes place, developing your understanding of economics and marketing in sport management, and examining the strategic and organisational elements of sport management.
These experiences prepare our graduates for employment in commercial and non-commercial organisations in development, marketing, operations, brand management, sponsorship strategy and communications across the sport sector, as well as in a variety of management, marketing, finance and accounting roles.

The aims of this module are to:
- support students' transition into and progression through university education by developing the core academic and vocational knowledge and skills required for their programme and future careers;

Introduction to Sport Management
The aim of this module is to introduce students to the field of sport management and provide a holistic overview of the complex nature of the sport industry.

The aims of this module are for students to develop knowledge and understanding of the underlying social science theories and topical debates that relate to sport, coaching and pedagogy and to acquire the necessary level of understanding to progress to more sociologically specific modules at Parts B and C.

Principles of Marketing for Sport and Leisure
The aim of this module is to introduce students to the principles of marketing and the role of marketing management in sport, leisure and recreation organisations.
Financial Accounting for Sport
The aims of this module are to:
- provide an introduction to financial accounting, its key concepts and context;
- develop students' skills in preparing and interpreting financial statements;
- explore the subjective nature of financial reporting, its benefits and its limitations;
- introduce students to financial statements taken from sports industry;
- develop students' analytical and written presentational skills;
- develop and enhance transferable skills.

Fundamentals of Sport Coaching
The aims of this module are for students to develop a holistic understanding of coaching and coaching practice, and to introduce students to evidence-based research and research-informed practice.
Semester 2
Compulsory modules
The Leisure Market
The aims of this module are to practically demonstrate the concepts and theories of microeconomics with applications to the sports and leisure sectors.
Behaviour in Sporting Organisations
The aims of this module are:
- to introduce students to a sound foundation of behavioural and organisational concepts for subsequent management modules;
- to develop a sensitive awareness and clear understanding of how people work individually, in groups and within both sport and other organisations;
- to encourage an openness to new ideas and an awareness that in many situations there is a range of alternatives which should be evaluated;
- to develop an awareness of the skills and learning that can be transferred between the sports and business worlds.
Critical Perspectives in Sport Management
The aim of this module is to introduce students to some of the key issues and contemporary debates that are relevant to sports managers within the complex social, political, financial, and increasingly globalised environment within which they work as well as to relevant theoretical concepts that aid the understanding of such issues and debates.

Research Skills and Methodologies
The aim of this module is for students to develop an understanding of the philosophical and methodological underpinnings of the research process and to gain experience of formulating appropriate research questions, research designs, proposals and analytic techniques for conducting research in sport, coaching, physical education and management.
Sports Law, Equity and Inclusion
The aims of this module are to develop an understanding of the legal principles underpinning sports law and its practice, and related issues of equity, inclusion and exclusion in sports.
Sport Management in Practice
The aims of this module are to prepare students for a career in sports business and management by developing and enabling them to apply their business knowledge, skills and attributes to practical management activities and to enhance their self-awareness, personal development and general transferable skills appropriate to graduate careers both within and beyond sports management in the global workplace.

Coaching Process and Practice
The aims of this module are for students to examine coaching effectiveness and the complexity of the coaching process and to be able to apply and demonstrate this theoretical knowledge in practice in authentic coaching contexts.

The aims of this module are to:
- build on the pre-requisite module;
- examine critically the role of the Human Resource Management (HRM) function within the contemporary organisation;

The aim is to further enhance knowledge and understanding of marketing principles in sport and leisure by examining core elements of the marketing planning process within sports organisations.

On completion of this module, students should be able to:

Accounting for Managers
The aims of this module are to:
- introduce students to a range of technical and analytical skills;

- evaluate the use of accounting and financial management in planning, decision making and control.

Conceptualising Sport
The aim of this module is to develop a critical understanding of more advanced social scientific concepts which combine to form the basis of social theories and perspectives used in the analysis of sport and physical cultures in modern societies across the world.
Physical Activity and Health
The aim of this module is for students to develop knowledge, critical understanding and skills relating to physical activity, sedentary behaviour and health.

Final Year Project
The aim of this module is to provide students with the knowledge, understanding, skills and opportunity to select, organise and conduct an enquiry-based project in a topic relevant to their development and programme.
Sport Policy and Governance
The aims of this module are for students to develop a critical understanding of the policy-making process, policy analysis and associated tools, concepts and models in sport; and to develop a critical understanding of of sports governance and governance principles, structures and standards in local and global sports organisations.
Strategic Sport Marketing and Economics
The overall aim of this module is for students to develop a systematic and critical understanding of UK and global sport markets, from both a strategic marketing and economic perspective, including consideration of the organisation, strategic application of marketing and communications in commercial and non-commercialised sport, society and policy, and the economic nature and evaluation of the markets for sport.
Strategic Management of Sports Organisations and Events
The aims of this module are to: enhance students' understanding of strategic considerations and key theories, processes and practices in managing sport organisations and events; and to develop some of the fundamental skills required in sport and event management.

Physical Activity and Health of Children
The aims of this module are to:
- understand the implications that physical changes which occur during the growth period in children and adolescents have for their physical activity, sedentary behaviour and health.
- understand the patterns and trends of physical activity and sedentary behaviour in children and adolescents, the factors that influence these patterns and trends, and their relationship with children and adolescents' health.
Advanced Sport Coaching
The aims of this module are for students to develop a critical understanding of coaches' development and life-long learning and to be able to specialise in specific coaching domains. The module aims to develop greater self-awareness and critical thinking skills.
Contemporary Issues in Sporting Cultures
The aims of the module are for students to develop a critical understanding of the practice and policy of contemporary sport cultures. There is an explicit link with the multi-disciplinary approach to social sciences taken at part A and the more sociologically driven modules in part B.
Leadership and Managing Change
The aim of this module is for students to develop a critical understanding of different theoretical perspectives on leadership and how leadership styles shape organisational practice. Students will also develop and evaluate their own preferred leadership approach and skills.

How you'll be assessed
Depending on the nature of the material, some modules are assessed by a mixture of coursework and examination (for example 25% coursework and 75% examination), whilst other modules are assessed by 100% coursework or 100% by examination.
Coursework is based on a variety of tasks including individual essays, projects, in-class tests, lab reports, contribution in tutorials, group work and presentations.
Placement year
On this course you'll have the option to undertake a placement as part of your degree, so that your time at 天堂视频 will consist of three years鈥 full-time academic study and one year of employment in industry.
Completing a placement is a great way to put your learning into context, improve your interpersonal skills, gain invaluable experience in the workplace, boost your employability and 'test-drive' a career to find out if a job is right for you.
Our School Placement Officers are in regular contact with organisations across the UK and advertise the available placements to you. The University Careers Network provides first class help with writing CVs, applications, cover letters, interview practice and presentations. Whilst on your placement you will be given full support by a Visiting Academic Tutor and Workplace Supervisor throughout.
Alternatively, you can choose to undertake a year in enterprise. This option provides you with opportunity to develop your own business with support, resources and facilities offered by the 天堂视频 Enterprise Network (LEN) and The Studio.
Additional award
This course comes with the option to undertake a professional placement for a year, at the end of which you will gain a Diploma in Professional Studies (DPS). This is an additional award to the final qualification you will receive once you have successfully completed this course.

Applicants are usually selected solely on the basis of their UCAS application. If applicants are made an offer of a place, they will be invited to visit the department giving them the opportunity to meet staff and students, see facilities and get an insight into what it is like to be a student at 天堂视频.
Many of our courses receive a large number of applications for each available place. We cannot unfortunately always make offers to all applicants who are predicted to achieve/have achieved grades in line with our advertised typical offers.

Typical offers for students from Australia are based on the Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR). Typically, we would require a score between 85.00 and 94.00. For students from Queensland, requirements from the Overall Position (OP) would typically be between 8 and 4.

For students studying in the USA, typical offers for entry onto undergraduate level courses are based on obtaining 3.2/4.0 GPA in the High School Graduation Diploma, in addition to a combination of any three of the following:
- Advanced Placement (AP) Exam
- IB Higher Levels
- College level class credit (should normally be taken in Grade 12 for one semester, and be equivalent to 3 credits/units in an academic subject)
- Honors classes (should be taken for a full academic year in either Grade 11 or Grade 12)
