Two pathways to take your career to the next level

You can take this programme in two ways:

  • As a one-year full-time MBA pathway
  • As a two-year full-time MBA with internship pathway

On the two-year pathway, you’ll spend your second year working on a 45-52 week supervised internship, gaining invaluable experience of applying your skills in a commercial environment. Graduates regularly go on to secure roles with their internship company.

The MBA is designed to provide managers with a challenging educational experience in terms of general intellectual and personal development within the context of the academic study of business and management.

Compulsory modules

Information Systems: Strategy and Management (10 credits)

The aims of this module are to:

  • Provide a fundamental understanding of Information Systems and the concerns of modern Information Technology in the competitive environment
  • Provide a fundamental theoretical understanding through Systems Theory (including Systems Thinking and related information concepts) and to exemplify its practical utility.
  • Understand digitization of traditional businesses and the Digital Economy through business applications of the technology deployed, in Platforms, Auctions, data analytics/Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Cryptocurrencies and robotics.
  • Explore digitization conceptually through concepts of transaction costs, disruption, network effects and innovation diffusion.
  • Provide a theoretical understanding of Media, Social Media, Attention Economy and immersive content, such as Virtual reality and games.

Strategic Marketing (10 credits)

The aims of this module are:

  • to provide participants with an understanding of the introductory principles and concepts relating to marketing, and to the management of the marketing mix;
  • to explore strategic marketing issues.

Accounting and Performance Management (10 credits)

The aims of this module are:

  • to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary for an understanding of financial management and its impact on decision-making in a variety of organisational contexts;
  • to develop the ability to analyse and interpret organisational performance;
  • to expose participants to the range of issues surrounding accounting for sustainability.

Business Economics (10 credits)

The aims of this module are to:

  • Equip students with an understanding of economic concepts and models appropriate to business decision making
  • Contribute to other management disciplines.

Contemporary Perspectives on Leadership (10 credits)

The aim of this module is:

  • to provide a theoretical and practical introduction to contemporary perspectives on leadership.
  • to provide an introduction to relevant academic and practitioner literature on leadership.
  • to help students apply leadership theory to their own workplace and their own behaviour.

Business Administration Project and Research Methods (30 credits)

The aims of this module are to:

  • Develop a working knowledge of the standard processes and methods used in business and management research;
  • Give students the experience of executing a previously designed, practically-based research study on an aspect of management of their choice;
  • Integrate ideas from the taught MBA programme into this problem solving context.

Optional modules

Over the duration of the programme, students must choose a total of 30 credits of optional modules.

Entrepreneurship in the 21st Century (10 credits)

The aims of this module are to:

  • Appreciate the importance of entrepreneurship and innovation in both small and large organisations.
  • Provide students with a critical understanding of theory and practice of entrepreneurial management.

Managing Corporate Reputation (10 credits)

The aims of this module are:

  • to provide participants with an understanding of how corporate reputation can be managed well and what to do when things go wrong;
  • to develop an understanding of media, media strategy and media management at regional, national and international levels;
  • to develop skills in managing the media and media interactions in a rapidly changing media environment;
  • to explore corporate reputation, brand management, PR and crisis management within a sports context and compare this context with other sectors.

Business Analytics (10 credits)

The aims of this module are:

  • to develop an understanding of the role of business analytics in an organisation;
  • to develop an awareness of big data and understanding of the assumptions and limitations of modelling methods, including ethical issues;
  • to develop an awareness of a range of analytical methods to improve decision making in organisations.

Management of Human Resources (10 credits)

The aims of this module are to provide participants with a richer understanding of issues associated with the management of human resources with organisations.

Corporate Finance (10 credits)

The aims of this module are to:

  • develop a broad understanding of core issues in corporate finance which are of particular importance to students' professional needs;
  • develop numerical reasoning and the ability to interpret numerical data.

Managing Innovation (20 credits)

The aims of this module are:

  • Introduce the concepts of innovation, entrepreneurship theory, and commercialisation;
  • Enable participants to utilise a detailed risk analysis tool to evaluate a commercial opportunity;
  • Explore the implementation of a new product/ service or process, whilst understanding the constraints under which many firms operate, with an emphasis on SMEs and start up business;
  • Enable students to apply the algorithm to real business opportunities in a consultancy capacity

  • explore the specific implications for managerial practice, financial management, marketing and innovation efforts to develop a rich understanding of the complexities of managing global firms;
  • develop knowledge of the different approaches that can be taken when managing firms in a global context.

Project Management (10 credits)

The aims of this module are to:

  • Provide a critical understanding of the role of a project manager in a wide variety of industrial and commercial applications;
  • Provide a critical understanding of the project planning and control techniques and human resource management methodologies available to project managers;
  • Build and develop project management skills that can be applied to organisational situations.

Advanced Management (20 credits)

The aim of this module is to develop an understanding of the changing nature of the practice and processes of strategic management and other advanced management topics as organisations operate in an increasingly internationalised business environment.

MBA with Internship

Those taking our two-year Full-Time MBA with Internship pathway will typically commence their 45-52 week professional internship after all teaching has finished during the summer semester.

How you'll be assessed

You will be assessed by a combination of exams and skills-based coursework assignments, undertaken both in groups and individually. Given the practical and applied nature of the course, the emphasis is towards coursework.

Some modules are delivered through weekly classes and others are offered in intensive, week blocks, and all include some pre-work and post-module study.

Applicants from colleges affiliated to universities in the top 250 Shanghai rankings will be considered if they have achieved or are likely to achieve final marks of 75%-84%.

Applicants from colleges affiliated to universities which are 251-500 in the Shanghai rankings will be considered if they have achieved or are likely to achieve final marks of 80%-87%.

Applicants from colleges affiliated to universities which are above 500 in the Shanghai rankings will be considered as follows:
