Programme changes
Programme Changes
Information for Student visa holders.
Your Student visa is valid for the programme of study shown on your CAS. If your programme or study dates change, this may affect your visa. If you stop studying on your programme in person, the University may be unable to continue to sponsor your current visa.
This page gives an overview of the most common changes to study and the information the University is required to give to UKVI. You are encouraged to seek guidance about your individual circumstances and the impact upon your Student visa and eligibility for the Graduate visa from an Immigration Advisor in the Student Advice and Support Service (SASS).
Your School can provide guidance about your academic options.
Reassessment
If you need to take reassessment in the Next Academic Year without attendance, the University cannot continue to sponsor your current visa as you are not attending in-person teaching. You will be expected to leave the UK and if you are a non-finalist, apply for a new visa when you are ready to return to in-person study. If you will have no further in-person teaching after your reassessments but are planning to apply for the Graduate Route visa, you should consider how the timing of your reassessments will impact upon your eligibility for the Graduate visa.
If you are taking reassessments in SAP, your visa will not be affected.
If you wish to take your reassessments with attendance in the Next Academic year, we can continue to sponsor your Student visa. If you are an undergraduate studying a bachelor's degree, when making your reassessment choices you should consider the time limit for degree level study on a Student visa, particularly if your programme includes a foundation and/or placement year.
Project extensions (postgraduate students)
If you are granted an extension for your postgraduate project or dissertation module, this is considered to be study without attendance. We cannot therefore issue you with a new CAS to extend your visa. If your visa expires before your work is marked and your final results considered by a programme board, this will impact upon your eligibility for the Graduate Route visa. Your School can advise you of the dates programme boards.
Transferring to a new programme
The rules for students wanting to transfer to a new programme are variable and we encourage you to seek guidance from the Student Advice and Support Service before requesting a programme transfer. You may have to apply for a new visa and/or ATAS before the transfer can be approved and, in some situations, UKVI may require your visa application to be made outside of the UK. If you are an undergraduate student, you will need to consider the time limit for degree-level study.
If you are not required to obtain a new visa, the University will inform UKVI of the details of your new programme.
Adding a placement year
Providing you will not exceed the time limit for study at degree level, you may normally add a placement year without first changing your visa. You should seek guidance from the Student Advice and Support Service about when and how to make a new visa application if you require longer to complete your programme, or if you have already transferred to a different programme to the one listed on your CAS.
If you add a placement year before obtaining a new visa, the University will inform UKVI of the change to your programme.
Removing a placement year
Where a placement year is optional, it is possible to drop the placement year from your programme without changing your visa. The University will inform UKVI of the change to your programme and expected end date.
Leave of Absence
A Leave of Absence is an agreed formal break in study, as opposed to a short period of authorised absence (e.g. for illness). If you are taking an approved Leave of Absence from your programme, the University cannot continue to sponsor your current visa. You will be expected to leave the UK and apply for a new visa when you are ready to return to your programme.
Withdrawal and termination of studies
If you withdraw from the University, or your studies are terminated because you have failed your programme, have stopped engaging, or for disciplinary reasons, the University cannot continue to sponsor your current visa. You will be expected to leave the UK unless you are applying for an alternative visa – e.g. to study at another institution.
Early completion
If you finish your studies earlier than the expected end date on your CAS, e.g. because you have transferred to a different programme or dropped your placement year, the University will tell UKVI that you have finished studying at 天堂视频. This is likely to impact upon the length of your visa.
