Running

Are you training for a running event, looking for a personal best, wanting to get the most out of your training, or just getting into running?

We can help you optimise training and enhance performance, through physiology testing and physiotherapy.

What is a Running Physiology Test?

Find out everything you need to know about our running fitness test and how it can help you improve your performance.

Physiology testing

A physiology or fitness assessment allows us to find out how your body performs as it does, as well as where your strengths lie, and what aspects of your physiology might be limiting your progress.

Getting your training intensities correct and working on the right things at the right stage of the year means you aren’t wasting precious training time.

The risks of injury, illness and overtraining can also be reduced as a consequence.

The main physiological variables that impact on performance will vary depending on the event you do, so getting your training right for your event and also for your current physiological status is important.

A running fitness test will help you maximise your training in the time that you have available to train.

Who is it for?

Anyone can access our service. Test protocols are adapted to suit the individual, whether you are a beginner or experienced athlete, and to suit the sport/event for which you are preparing.

The purpose of the testing is to give you specific, individualised training advice based on your physiology, so it is most suited to people who are training for a particular sport or event.

How much does it cost?

Standard week-day assessments: A standard test (VO2max and submax) is £205 whilst a fuel utilisation test is £232.  If two people come in together for testing, each would get a 10% discount, and if you book a second visit within 12 months of the first you would get a 10% discount.

Evening (bookings 5pm on) and weekend assessments: £225.50 for standard test, £255 for fuel utilisation test; same discounts apply.

Bespoke test protocols and packages for groups can be delivered so please contact us for exact pricing.

Ultra Endurance

If you are training for an endurance event such as an Ironman, an Ultra run or a multi-day event, information about your fuel utilisation (how much fats/carbs you use) can be key.

Our carbohydrate stores are limited, so maximising your ability to use fats as a fuel is vital for success in long endurance events.  Understanding your fuel metabolism will allow you to tailor your training and your nutrition appropriately.

Our standard running physiology test protocol is adapted slightly, and the test is carried out in the morning, after your standard race day breakfast, to give us as accurate information as possible about the amount of fats and carbs you use.

Your feedback report will include a section explaining these results, advising on training adaptations to influence fuel use if necessary, and guidance on how much carbohydrate you need to be taking on during a race.
