Scotland international Speirs joins George Bates’ side following a successful spell at Glasgow Rollin Rocks and will take the number 18 jersey at Lightning. She will also study for a PhD at 天堂视频 alongside competing on the national stage.
“I am really excited about joining the Lightning programme. It will be a fantastic opportunity to develop as an athlete and chase my dream of representing Scotland at the Commonwealth Games,” Speirs told 天堂视频 Sport.
Speirs will be joined at the club by Manchester-born Jess Whyte. Whyte is relatively new to the sport but has already been involved in key GB academy training camps, showing great promise.
George Bates, Head Coach of Lightning Wheelchair Basketball, said:
“Lynsey is an extremely hard worker and brings that incredible work ethic to the team. It’s also great to see one of our athletes doing her PhD alongside training with the squad, and that’s something I’m keen for our athletes to explore.
“Jess is fairly new to the game but is already showing a good understanding of the sport. She’s shown an eagerness to learn and has high aspirations which is great to see from a coach’s perspective.”
The first season of Wheelchair Basketball’s Women’s Premier League will take place from January 2022 - May 2022.
