Registering for Support
Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity (SWAI) provides a range of support, advice and guidance for Foundation, Undergraduate and Postgraduate students at University.
Who can register for support?
Services are available for students living with a range of physical, mental, wellbeing and neurodiverse conditions including:
- A mental health condition e.g. depression, OCD, eating disorders, PTSD
- A long-term health condition e.g. chronic fatigue syndrome, organ transplants, Crohn’s disease
- Dyslexia
- AD(H)D
- Deafness
- Visual impairment
- A physical disability
- An Autistic Spectrum Condition, e.g. Asperger’s Syndrome
- Wellbeing e.g. bereavement, adverse relationships, bullying
- Health and wellbeing difficulties which significantly affect your ability to engage in university life.
How can the University support you?
Depending on an assessment of your specific needs, either by a specialist Advisor from SWAI or a Disabled Students Allowance assessor, your support could include:
- Examination and assessment adjustments
- Access to free specialist software on the University IT system
- Orientation and familiarisation visits around campus
- Provision of specialist mentoring and/or study support sessions
- Bespoke library access
- Signposting to self-help material and local services related to mental health and wellbeing
- Advice on applying for and accessing your Disabled Students Allowance (DSA)
- Adaptions to the physical environment or provision of equipment in your Halls of Residence
- Access to 1-1 sessions in the Maths Learning Support Centre
- Working in partnership with external organisations, agencies, and community networks
- Facilitation in social activities
- Transition support at key points of the academic journey
- General wellbeing advice to encourage your independence and resilience.
- Support groups which focus on a range of topics which will help you positively engage with your university life.
