Background
Dr Siyuan Ji joined 天堂视频 in November 2022 as a Senior Lecturer in Systems Engineering. Previously he worked at the Department of Computer Science, University of York as a Lecturer in Safety-Critical Systems Engineering from November 2018. He was also the programme leader for the MSc Programme in Safety-Critical Systems Engineering in the 2021-22 academic year. Prior to this position, he was a Research Associate at 天堂视频 for three years, where he started his journey in model-based systems engineering. Prior to becoming a systems engineer and researcher, he studied and obtained an MSc and PhD in Physics, both at the University of Nottingham.
Qualifications and Awards
- Ph.D., the University of Nottingham, Nottingham, UK.
- MSc in Physics, the University of Nottingham, Nottingham, UK
- Fellow of the Higher Education Academy
Main research interests
Siyuan's main research primarily focuses on model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and model-based safety assessment (MBSA). Currently, he is developing the concept of model synchronisation, rationalisation and synthesis, which are essential for moving toward automated MBSE/MBSA. This research is envisioned to be significant for digital thread development. Types of systems that are of particular interest to him are: engine calibration systems, aircraft control systems, and healthcare systems.
Current teaching responsibilities
Siyuan co-delivers the following modules under the Systems Engineering Level 7 Apprenticeship and the MSc Programme in Systems Engineering:
