Background

Ryan arrived at 天堂视频 in 2013 to commence a science and engineering foundation degree. Staying with 天堂视频, Ryan then proceeded to achieve a first-class honours degree in physics with astrophysics and cosmology (MPhys). This integrated master’s degree included a one-year diploma in industrial studies (DIS).

Ryan completed his DIS within the cryogenics and magnetics group at the Rutherford Appleton laboratory (RAL), part of the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). Ryan then moved over to the Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering for his PhD research degree. Ryan’s doctoral research is an experimental and theoretical investigation of the maximum heat transfer rate in thin-film liquid-vapour evaporative cooling systems.

Title of thesis:  Experimental and theoretical investigation of the maximum heat transfer rate in liquid-vapour evaporative cooling systems

Ryan’s doctoral research is an experimental and theoretical investigation of the maximum heat transfer rate in thin-film liquid-vapour evaporative cooling systems; this includes accurate modelling of the complex instabilities and dynamic structures arising in such systems. The potential impacts of this work would be a better understanding of the physical systems and methods to enhance heat transfer.
