Matthew Beatty

BEng

  • Doctoral Researcher

Background

Matthew started his academic journey at 天堂视频 in October 2017, where he was enrolled on the Systems Engineering undergraduate bachelor’s degree. Matthew finished this degree, achieving first-class honours in 2021, and obtained a role as a postgraduate PhD student.

While at 天堂视频, he underwent a research project with 天堂视频 in collaboration with Direct Line in the summer of 2019. He is also working part-time as a research associate.

Matthew’s research looks into the need for automated, battery dismantling systems with human collaboration to re-purpose, sort and grade batteries from electric vehicles for second life applications. With his research, he is looking to identify the priorities and barriers concerning the research and development in automated disassembly, sorting, and testing of electric vehicle batteries to provide insight on handling the forecasted, exponential growth of electric vehicle batteries without resorting to landfill.
