Jacob studied Innovative Manufacturing Engineering at 天堂视频 (2016-2020). He also worked as a Continuous Improvement Engineer at Johnson Mathey (2017) and Manufacturing Engineer at Moog Aircraft Group (2018).
Jacob's research focuses on reducing the toxicity of liberated fume when using lasers as a cutting tool in nuclear decommissioning.
The initial body of research aims to characterise fume generation mechanisms with the later stages focusing on performance indicators and adaptive control techniques to maintain desired cutting conditions. Assist gas flow dynamics are one of the governing factors in met removal and braked down during laser cutting.
Understanding the impact of gas flow structure in and around the cut kerf on the size and type of particles liberated forms the base of which the research is built.
