Background
Alex Lyness has held a number of senior R&D roles within industry. He has led interdisciplinary teams and has run international collaborations between large multinational companies, high-calibre academic institutions and medtech start-ups. This has all been done with the intent to bring cutting-edge technologies from potential, through to feasibility and into next generation drug delivery systems.
Previously, Alex was awarded an EPSRC Enterprise Fellowship and conducted research at 天堂视频 to develop a delivery system for pancreatic islets. Whilst working at the university he also consulted as the Technical Lead on a collaborative-project with Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult (London) that led to a CE-marked, patented a device capable of delivering cells to the upper layers of the skin to treat a rare genetic disease.
He gained his PhD whilst working as a Medical Device Engineer where he worked on the optimisation of a needle-free drug delivery injection system that was later shown to be successful at a clinical trial.
Alex is a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He has published over 20 research articles and is a named inventor on 15 patent applications.
