The iD Cards are a card and app-based tool to enhance collaboration and understanding during new product development. The tool comprises 32 design representations (categorised as sketches, drawings, models, prototypes), identifying when they are used and for what types of information.
Validated by the Board of Directors of the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), the card-based iD Cards were distributed to 5000 members of the IDSA, used to define the profession on its website and converted to a PDF for download from their website. In response to demand, the tool was translated into an app that had over 18000 users in its first two years and received recognition through promotion by organisations that include Design Denmark, German Design Council, Ornamo Finland, British Industrial Design Association and Design Institute Australia.
