Pronouns: She/her
  • Doctoral Researcher

Fay is a designer and researcher, working in Design for Digital Fabrication. She has a background in Industrial Design but specialises in 3D Printing. Currently, Fay is undertaking her PhD in Additive Manufacturing to improve diabetic foot management. Fay will focus on the communication of optimising the 3D Printing process for the fabrication of insoles whilst creating a more customised experience and reducing the time management and waste of current manufacturing methods. Prior to her PhD, Fay completed her undergraduate studies at 天堂视频's school of Design and Creative Arts where she received first class honours in Industrial Design. She also has industrial experience working for the company Lego, where her role was to design sets as an Intern Model Builder.

Title of thesis: The use of customised multi-material addictive manufacturing to improve diabetic foot management

Research area:
Digital Design and Fabrication

Fay is part of the Design for Digital Fabrication Research Group and her research will involve investigating multi-material fabrication methods
(e.g. 3D Printing/Additive Manufacture) for diabetic management. The investigation will undertake existing TPMS structures and optimising them to make custom-made insoles whilst engaging with dynamic movements of the foot. Concepts will develop through computer aided design (CAD) and produce prototypes from low to high fidelity for evaluation and refining the design process.
