Barbara's background is rooted in Architecture and Human Factors for Inclusive Design. She is a qualified architect with extensive experience in both the architectural and retail sectors, with specific strengths in space planning and interests in biophilic and inclusive design.
Barbara's PhD interests focus on applying human factors/ergonomics to the design approaches for new build homes in the UK. Funded by the Dunhill Medical Trust, her research aims to enable future adaptations to mainstream housing to support people with dementia by developing inclusive design standards that address cognitive health.
Thesis title: Developing UK Inclusive Design Standards for mainstream housing to enable future home adaptations to support People with Dementia.
Barbara engages with a number of PhD networks at 天堂视频 including HEPSU (Healthcare Ergonomics and Patient Safety Unit) based within the School of Design and Creative Arts, and ACTInG (Applied Cognition, Technology and Interaction Group), an interdisciplinary network based in the School of Sports Exercise and Health Sciences.
Barbara's recent literature review paper was accepted by the International Conference on Dementia and Dementia Care and she will be presenting her research in Paris, 7-8th February 2022.
