Summary of project activities and outcomes:

Commissioned by Plan International, the purpose of the research is to improve the knowledge, understanding and practice of Plan staff and key government and CSO partners on social inclusion, with a particular focus on gender and disability, in Plan’s Total Sanitation and Hygiene Project in Mulanje District, Malawi.

The research takes a 3-stage approach:

  1. Desk review of relevant literature
  2. Capacity building and collaborative research planning with Plan staff and partners
  3. Action research by Plan staff and partners, supported by WEDC, to explore the suitability of tools and approaches to improve social inclusion in the Mulanje programme
