Summary of project activities and outcomes:
This demonstrates our innovation in the provision of capacity building though delivery of a mixed mode training course on inclusive water, sanitation and hygiene programming for 50 WaterAid staff located in 12 country programmes (including Bangladesh, Mali, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Pakistan, PNG, Rwanda, Tanzania, Sierra Leone/Liberia. Uganda, USA, UK). A combination of delivery formats were used, including self-paced distance learning assignments, both practical and theoretical, a course website with downloadable resources and discussion forum; email correspondence with course tutor; web-based seminars for discussion and feedback, traditional face-to-face workshop.
The course was delivered in 3 phases:
- Phase 1 comprised 3 assignments over a period of 4 months, with a month to complete each. Learners worked individually or as teams, and submitted their assignment reports online. Feedback and discussion was provided via webinars.
- Phase 2 was a 5-day workshop for 2 participants from each country programme, building on Phase 1.
- Phase 3 comprised assignments and webinars to promote the application of learning in the WaterAid country programme annual planning and budgeting process.
Our specific tasks involved:
- Design and delivery of the training course to the client’s requirements
- Design of a tailor-made course website, comprising online resources centre, with relevant reference materials, downloadable assignments and discussion forum
