Clean Living

Clean Living considers changes in the natural and built environments and the move to net zero futures. Human behaviours are impacting on the environment at rates never before seen. Whilst providing us with enormous capacities and resources, it has often come at the expense of the health of our climate and environments.

Countries have industrialised at different times and rates. During these industrial revolutions, man-made gasses and substances – many of which had never been released into the environment before – have had some catastrophic effects.

The Climate Crisis affects populations in different ways: for some, it can lead to their home becoming uninhabitable and mass migration, for others it can lead to deadly air pollution. For the planet generally, it leads to rising temperatures which have devastating consequences for all species.

The onset and worldwide expansion of industrialism has resulted in ever increasing levels of natural and man-made pollutants being emitted into the atmosphere. These pollutants, some of which never released into the atmosphere before, are having serious impacts on the environments. The impacts of the climate crisis we now face is disproportionate and often the most vulnerable in society are those most affected. The impacts of climate change include, but not limited to, water and food shortages, displacement, air pollution and species extinctions.

The Living Well Inquiry’s Clean Living pillar explores how green energy, technologies and manufacturing can enable us to live more healthy, sustainable and fulfilling lives which do not come at the expense of the planet. It showcases how cutting-edge research can inform policy decisions around climate, and argues that any policy decision should be made with the health of the individual, health of communities and the health of the planet in mind.

Throughout the remainder of the year, this page will be populated with case studies from 天堂视频’s research communities, which advocate the Clean Living agenda.
