University to host Dementia Awareness Day
The event is open to carers, health professionals and members of the public and will include sessions on exercise, cooking and music based activities.
Taking place in the University’s, it is being hosted by the and will run from 10am until 2pm.
Speaking about the awareness day, from the Dementia Research Group said: “This event will be a great opportunity for people to meet others affected by dementia, as well as organisations working within this area. There will also be lots of practical and informative sessions to take part in.
“At the University there is a huge body of research taking place into dementia, and this event will give us a great opportunity to share this work and discuss future projects.”
Dementia experts from a range of backgrounds will be on hand for a day of dementia themed talks and activities, including exercise and cooking workshops, music and art based activities, and a Dementia Friends information session.
Robin Brisbourne from Alzheimer’s Research UK, said: “There are around 850,000 people in the UK living with dementia, including over 6000 in the East Midlands alone. As large as these numbers are, they don’t tell the whole story. Dementia doesn’t just affect individuals but touches the lives of countless families and communities.
