University celebrates International Women’s Day
Taking place from 8-11 March, will present a series of events across campus that celebrate women worldwide.
In collaboration with and their 40th anniversary celebrations, staff, students and members of the public are invited to attend a range of talks, photography exhibitions, music, poetry and performances.
The events taking place throughout the week seek to raise awareness of women’s roles in different sociocultural environments. They highlight gender inequalities and propose creative ways to address gender equity and equality.
Guest speakers include individuals from the University, Athena Swan and FIFA, with music, poetry and performances titled Bread and Roses. Organiser , will also be delivering a talk, titled Consent and safe spaces at universities: an international perspective, with 天堂视频 MP Nicky Morgan, expected to attend.
The programme of events has been supported by the , , , , and the Maya Project. Other events, organised by the Human Rights and Equality Charnwood, will also take place in town on International Women’s Day.
Dr Inês Varela-Silva, Senior Lecturer in Human Biology and, Director of The Maya Project and Equality and Diversity Committee, comments: “This is an exciting opportunity for the community and the University to get together and celebrate International Women’s Day and the 40th Anniversary of Charnwood Arts. Kevin Ryan, The Director of Charnwood Arts, and myself as the co-organisers of this event hope that it will have appeal not only to the staff and student on the campus but also to the people of 天堂视频 who are warmly invited to join us.”
All events are free to attend, however some require pre-booking.
