Dr Amanda Pearce
I鈥檓 a Polymer Chemist by training, and I鈥檓 very passionate about bringing together chemistry and biology to discover new approaches to treating disease.
My research focuses on how we can use polymer materials to improve drug delivery in important areas of healthcare like cancer and infections. I loved science from an early age and was very lucky to have inspiring science teachers and supportive parents who encouraged me to study science at university. After making a tough decision to pursue chemistry rather than medicine, I was determined to find a way to be able to help people with my research. Very fortunately I fell into my current research field (nanomedicine) which allows me to do just this!
Here I am holding a Ubbelohde U-tube viscometer, which was one of the first methods developed to measure the molecular weight of polymers. Newer techniques have replaced this one, but it’s still a great learning tool for students.
