‘Ready Set 天堂视频’ Team

Three years post launch of the Ready Set 天堂视频 (RSL) induction programme, the RSL team has streamlined and reshaped RSL to deliver fundamental and impactful building blocks for students to feel a sense of belonging before arrival, to help students feel safe, and to support work with removing barriers to achieve an equitable and inclusive student experience.

The team also devised a marketing campaign which comprised of highlighting the benefits of completing RSL pre-arrival; incentivising completion by start of term; which led to a significant increase in the number of students participating and completing RSL in 22-23 compared to previous years.

Creative Arts Technical Tutors

Typically limited to teaching into other modules, the technical tutors were tasked with creating, staffing and assessing a module whose delivery would be flexible enough to cater for three separate courses and could instil the basic principles of the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite of softwares into all Creative Arts students.

Redefining what staff typically consider as research and innovation, the team, comprised of industrial professionals, used their insights of what design studios will require of their employees, to offer the first dedicate technical skills module the SDCA has ever seen.

ALSS, Library and Student Success Academy Teams

The collaborative and innovative approach by Academic Language Support Service (ALSS), the Library and Student Success Academy teams in developing and delivering a series of writing retreats for undergraduate finalists across a range of schools has had a direct positive impact on enhancing student academic experience.

The teams involved are tremendously student-focussed and experienced in working with students from a wide-range of backgrounds including international students and students traditionally underrepresented in Higher Education (e.g., students from Low Income Households and BAME students).

Practical Engineering Learning and Teaching Team

In the past year the team enhanced our offer of unique practical learning opportunities that immerse our students into the world of designing and building cutting-edge ground/air vehicles with focus on low emissions and safety.

Led by John Newton and Scot Layton and supported by a team of exceptional technical support staff and our Research Fellow Dr Antonios Pezouvanis, the team have embedded practical learning and design into our course by redesigning our first year Vehicle and Aircraft Design modules and by supporting our students in their involvement with the Unmanned Air System Challenge (UAS) and Formula Student (FS).
