CSM Member Publishes in a Journal with a High Impact Factor on Coopetition between Martials Arts Clubs
Dr James M. Crick and Professor David Crick (from the University of Ottawa, Canada) have published a new study in the International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behavior & Research (ABS: 2; ABDC: B; IF: 3.529).
Their investigation used data from martial arts clubs in New Zealand to examine the nature of the relationship between coopetition (collaboration among competitors) and sales performance. They found that while coopetition drives sales performance, this link is negatively moderated by inter-firm conflict, but is positively influenced by competitive intensity. In turn, these findings highlight the potential risks and rewards of cooperating with industry rivals.
Furthermore, the martial arts setting (specifically, ITF Taekwon-Do) is a rich service-oriented context because the clubs face fierce competition to provide a high-quality service (in a sporting environment) to their members/customers. Indeed, as shown in the photo below, ITF Taekwon-Do is a sport that is practiced by Dr James M. Crick (and his co-author), in which he is a black belt instructor, tournament umpire, and grading examiner.
