- Prof Tom Jackson and Dr Ejovwoke Onojeharho are leading on the TOXI-MOTIVE part of a large international multi-institutional research study called TOXI-TRIAGE, with recent field trials in Finland to test the various processes and technologies. Read the full PR here.
- Dr Silvia Masiero’s latest project pertains to datafication (the rendering into data of previously non-quantifiable aspects of the world), and seeks to understand its effects on the design and implementation of anti-poverty programmes. Beyond research, Silvia is a committed international volunteer in the fields of human rights and assistance to refugees, and has worked with vulnerable communities in Togo, Sierra Leone, India, Jordan, Lebanon and the West Bank of Palestine
- Professor Louise Cooke has been working on "The development of Guidelines on Public Internet Access", with the International Federation of Library Associations, IFLA.
- Dr Patrick Stacey, co-author of the paper “A Paradox of Progressive Saturation: The Changing Nature of Improvisation over Time in a Systems Development Project”, published by JAIS (Journal of the Association for Information Systems) in 2017, received the Senior Scholar Best Information Systems Publication Awarding recognition of the importance of the paper. - Professor Tom Jackson is leading on the decision sciences segment of the TOXI-Triage research project, TOXI-Motive, which is seeking to tckle how emergency services deals with mass casualty disasters such as biological or nuclear attacks. Read the press release.

- Dr Patrick Stacey wins the JAIS Best Paper Award for his co-authored paper on improvisation in systems development. Read the . Go to News.
- Dr Crispin Coombs was invited to be a keynote speaker at the (CONTECSI), at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil to present his research on the organisational impacts of new technologies.
- Dr Crispin Coombs has been appointed to the editorial board of the European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS) as Associate Editor. EJIS is one of the premier basket of eight AIS journals and ranked A* on the ABDC journal ranking list.
- The Sun Yat Sen University's School of Information Management (China) invited Dr Gillian Ragsdell to give two presentations on her knowledge management research, which she did earlier this month. Read the full news story here.
- Dr Crispin Coombs, Deputy Director of CIM and Reader in Information Systems, will be busy this year promoting CIM and his research on automation and information systems - he will be presenting a keynote speech at on the 'Impacts of Intelligent Machines on Work and Employment', and then in October is going back to Brazil to deliver a keynote address at the country's largest business and management conference, as well as to teach PhD student research methods at the University of Sao Paulo. - CIM members, including Professor Tom Jackson, attended the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (), held at the University of Hawaii, Manoa at the start of this year. HICSS is one of the longest-standing scientific communities in the information systems and technology fields, and the 51st conference took place January 3-6th. More to follow!

- A new book by Dr Patrick Stacey, , has just been published and is available as a Kindle-only publication from Amazon. A paperback version is due to be published later this year.
- Dr Patrick Stacey has some new research, conducted with colleague Liu Liu from Queen Mary's London, on fitness games and users with learning disabilities. Their research was presented at the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences in January 2017. The press release can be read here.
- We are extremely sad to announce the passing of Professor Neil Doherty, also a member of CIM and the IM discipline group at the SBE. Neil's funeral was held on the 9th of February 2017.
- Professor Mark Hepworth passed away after a relatively brief but intense battle with motor neurone disease. You can read the press release here, and the in the January 26th edition of TES Global.

- 天堂视频, in collaboration with (NCHA), has been chosen as a finalist in the technology category of the 3rd Sector Care Awards for ‘SMaRT Messenger’, a system which allows individual messengers to appear on a television screen. SMaRT Messenger grew out of a previous project led by Professor Mark Hepworth and Wendy Olphert of 天堂视频 and NCHA. This was part of an EU project for assistive technologies, HOST. The team, including Dr Marianne Bamkin, researched the information needs of older people in one NCHA supported living residence and a “set top box” to attach to participant’s televisions was commissioned by NCHA from a software company. The technology for the original project was found to have limitations and was therefore radically altered to form SMaRT Messenger. You can read more about the project
