Organizations operate in times of accelerated volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity. Because of this, organizations must innovate to stay ahead of the curve to capitalize on societal, business and individual trends. This holds true regardless of age or size, public or private status, family or nonfamily.

The misalignment of organisational agendas surrounding governance, investments in capabilities, knowledge retention / recall, and leadership often hampers organizations’ willingness and readiness to innovate. We see this as a function of two key issues: the internal environment of the organization itself, and its employees. The conditions for entrepreneurial orientation and employee entrepreneurial behaviour, capabilities required for transformation, and powerful interorganizational relations are often missing. How can organizations prepare to take on the innovation agendas required to remain competitive, and achieve the changes necessary to be fit for the future? That is the core problem the Centre for Corporate Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CCEI) seeks to resolve.

The most prominent cause of poor organizational readiness for corporate entrepreneurship and innovation is the disconnection between senior management vision, the context in which employees behave, and the ways in which employees act. Misalignments between how employees are organized and managed and the desired vision of senior managers perpetuate poor organizational readiness for change. CCEI provides research and practice-based insights on how executives build, manage and sustain the innovative organization now and into the future. Through research, engagement and international partnerships, we seek to help executives and government leaders to better understand the state of play for corporate entrepreneurship and innovation in their organisation.

Critical issue we address include:

  • What will the future organization look like and how will that differ from the present?
  • What capabilities enable organizational readiness for change? 
  • How do organisations innovate and sustain innovation now and into the future?
  • Why do some organizations fail to change while others succeed?
  • What governance structures support different types of organizations (e.g. small or large, family or nonfamily) to sustain corporate entrepreneurship, innovation and success?
