Open Research Excellence Award
Congratulations to Beth Woollacott, former DME PhD student and current Research Associate for the , who received the Open Research excellence award. Beth was recognised for open research activities including engagement with students aged 9 to 13, encouraging them to consider the opportunities that pursuing maths affords by explaining her career path and an overview of her research and the importance of the subject tied in with interactive activities.
Beth was also recognised for her collaboration with Oxford University Press' secondary maths and STEM education publishing team as part of her PhD. Through this collaboration, Beth attended meetings and gave feedback on various resources based on her knowledge of the research literature. These include a new GCSE maths revision series where she advised on the design and layout of the guide from the very initial stages, to the review process of 'Maths the Basics', a textbook for mathematical functional skills, where Beth suggested, and authored, revision summaries based on feedback from her research. One of the main outputs from this collaboration was an eighty page design guide which was a practitioner-facing guidebook to educational textbook and multimedia design, for the whole of the secondary education team at Oxford University Press.
Congratulations to Serena Rossi who was nominated in this category.
