Matthew Inglis has been shortlisted for the 2017 Times Higher Education (THE) Award for Outstanding Research Supervisor of the Year.
The THE awards recognise UK-based academics for work across 19 areas of activity, and attract hundreds of entries from higher education institutions across the country. They are now in their 13th year, and the gala ceremony to announce the winners will take place in London on November 30th.
Matthew's well-deserved shortlisting is based on 1) his leadership in creating a world-class research environment that provides excellent support and opportunities for Mathematics Education Centre (MEC) doctoral students, and 2) his work in inspiring and challenging both MEC and visiting doctoral students by exposing them to cutting-edge methods and debates in education and psychology. Matthew’s commitment to developing a strong research culture in the MEC and beyond was evident in the numerous testimonials provided for his nomination by MEC students, students from further afield, and leading academics in mathematics education.
Matthew’s shortlisting comes as no surprise to MEC staff and students, where Matthew’s excellent and committed work is routinely recognised and thoroughly appreciated. We are delighted to see it recognised at a national level.
