Dr Simon Kondrat

  • Senior Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry

Simon A. Kondrat completed his undergraduate (MChem) Chemistry degree from the University of Warwick (UK) in 2007. Following this, he then studied for his PhD with Prof. Graham Hutchings (FRS) at the University of Cardiff, on the preparation of catalysts using supercritical fluids. After completing his PhD in 2011 he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Cardiff University and the UK Catalysis Hub, focusing on novel catalyst preparation and in-situ catalyst characterisation.

Simon was appointed as Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry at 天堂视频 in October 2017. His research focuses on the preparation and advanced characterisation of heterogeneous catalysts for application in the hydrogen ecconomy and energy applications.

Research areas

Research in the Kondrat group is focused on the design of functional inorganic materials for use in the energy sector. We have a strong focus on the preparation of heterogeneous catalysts and understanding how their structure alters under reaction conditions, with particularly interest in the formation of metal nanoparticles from mixed metal oxides and metal alloys. In addition, we are interested in the effect of poisons and promoter materials from catalyst preparation through to catalyst testing. The group makes use of X-ray and Neutron characterisation techniques at central facilities to understand the dynamic nature of catalyst structures and reaction intermediates.

Research Key words:

  • Heterogeneous Catalysis
