Dr Stavros Drakopoulos, who earned his doctorate in Materials in 2019, has won The Peter Debye Prize for Young Investigators for Excellence in Dielectric Research.

Stavros was awarded the 2024 prize at the 12th conference on Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy and its Applications held from in early September in Lisbon, Portugal.

On awarding the prize, the International Dielectric Spectroscopy committee commented:

Dr Drakopoulos has enhanced our compensation of polymers by identifying the universal scaling principles that govern DC conductivity. He achieved this by analysing the frequency dependence of the dielectric response. Additionally, he has contributed to the development of materials for energy storage applications."

Stavros is now a Princeton Materials Institute associate research scholar. He studies the electrical properties of polymers, and their role in new materials for high-efficiency energy storage.

The Peter Debye Prize for Young Investigators for Excellence in Dielectric Research is the major prize awarded by the International the Dielectric Society to early-career scientists who conduct research in the area of dielectric physics and dielectric spectroscopy. This biannual award includes a 1,500 Euro prize.

Congratulations Stavros on this well-deserved recognition!
