After learning that intensive meat production was responsible for 25% of the world’s greenhouse emissions, Thomas spent 10 months researching possible solutions before launching his startup BeoBia to manufacture a closed-loop system that turns food waste into protein, including sustainable pet food, and plant fertiliser.
This year, BeoBia was announced as a FoodTech 500 company. Inspired by the Fortune 500, the FoodTech 500 is the world’s first definitive list of the global entrepreneurial talent at the intersection between food, technology, and sustainability. In 2020, BeoBia launched a crowdfunding campaign to test the market, securing over £20,000 in pre-orders in less than 30 days from over 300 customers. Currently, the traction of BeoBia includes 400+ paying beta customers, 800 customers on their mailing list through organic marketing, and £30k+ revenue.
Emanuele Maccotta (Business Management and Computer Science 2020) was elected as the Enterprise Executive Officer of 天堂视频 Students’ Union in 2020 and met Thomas through various entrepreneurial activities at the LSU and the Studio, the graduate programme of .
With his expertise in enterprise as well as his current role as a Consulting and Strategy Analyst at Accenture, Emanuele expressed interest in becoming an ‘angel investor’, leading him to invest in BeoBia.
Emmanual commented:
“We need to develop sustainable approaches to how we live and interact, and when I saw what wanted to achieve and how they went about it through-out the years, I knew I had to be part of it.
“The entrepreneurial space is one of my homes, and supporting young talent, upcoming ideas and sustainability is all part of that ecosystem - this investment is only one of the many awesome ventures that one can take part in.”.
BeoBia is currently open to investment opportunities and are keen to work with alumni investors.
